Die Legende der Stillen Nacht Mäuse - Lukas und Lisa

The Legend of the Silent Night mice is an imaginary story with elements of the existing legend. It is passed down that mice nibbled the bellow of the organ at the St. Nikolai church in the Christmas Night in 1818 and therefore contributed to the development of the song “Silent Night”.

The idea, to tell the story of the ancestors of Luke and Lisa, came to existence, when the question was being asked over and over again, why the small church-mouse Lukas of all colours, was redheaded.

Part 1 – Roland

The first part of the legend explains, how the Oberndorf church-mice came to their rascally red hair. The young and wicked little mouse Roland started his involuntary journey in 1718. This journey brought him a special friend and led him to Passau, where he met a beautiful, redheaded mouse-girl. They got married and their destiny led them back to Oberndorf, where they founded the dynasty of the redheaded church-mice.

Part 2 – Martin
The second part starts with the development of the famous “Silent Night song” with the help of the, guess what? Redheaded grand-grandfather of the mice siblings Lukas and Lisa, named Martin.
Anno Domini 1818. Martin was a grown up mouse then who lived with his family in the sacristan house nearby the Nikolai church. There he met pastor Mohr and his friend Franz Xaver Gruber. They became friends, because both of them had the particular gift that enabled them to understand the language of the mice.

In the Christmas Night, in which the famous song was to be sung the very first time, mysterious events almost prevented the debut performance. Fortunately, the three friends could avoid that everything went wrong. Martin played a very important role and was later honoured for his doings. When he was informed that he will have to stand up for his grand-grandchildren Lukas and Lisa in the far future, he betook himself into an long, enchanted sleep from which he would only awake, when his grand-grandchildren need him.

Part 3 – Luke and Lisa
Together with their grand-grandfather Martin, Lukas and Lisa rescue the song and the Christmas celebrations for the coming generations. The siblings, Luke and Lisa, live in our times. Dreams lead them to the tracks of their grand-grandfather. By chance, they find the secret place where Martin lies asleep. They wake him up and get a task which the have to fulfil together with their grand-grandfather. An evil force tries to make the people forget about the Christmas celebrations and the song. Their task is hard and they get some help from a young lad named David. David was born with the Down’s Syndrome, but is an enormous help for the three mice. After a lot of struggles, the friends managed to save the Christmas celebrations and the song from being forgotten.
